Danny Murphy slammed Tim Iroegbunam as Everton conceded three late goals against Bournemouth on Saturday 31 August.

The Toffees dominated the clash and while they found themselves 2-0 up but with three goals in seven minutes, the away side went home with all three points.

Iroegbunam was picked out on Match of the Day by Murphy on 31 August for his lack of defensive influence as the Cherries completed a late comeback.

He said: “Fatigue kicks in, small errors, lack of communication, lack of desire, lack of energy, whatever it might be. Iroegbunam switches off, he doesn’t go with the runner.

“There’s danger, you’ve got to get back as quick as you can. Iroegbuam again, he gave everything and I think he was completely knackered and he switches off, not good enough I’m afraid.”

The Goodison Park faithful certainly weren’t pleased to see their side chuck away what looked like a guaranteed win so late in the day.

Everton capitulate in remarkable fashion to throw away two-goal lead with three minutes go

Once Andoni Iraola’s side scored one, the Toffees’ heads dropped and the writing was on the wall from that point onwards.

This was made all the more frustrating given the fact that Sean Dyche’s men had performed well throughout the game and deserved to be 2-0 up.

It was a lesson in taking your chances while you can, Seamus Coleman and Dominic Calvert-Lewin both had very presentable chances to widen the lead.

There just seemed to be a drop off in match fitness and as a result, the Bournemouth substitutes were able to have a superb impact on the game.

There are a lot of positives to take from the game but the score and defeat after dominating is a bitter blow which sees Dyche’s men rock bottom of the Premier League table.
