Wolves could officially announce £17m player’s exit today, it’s a ‘done deal’

The transfer window for English clubs may well have closed, but players can still leave to join Saudi clubs – and one Molineux star’s move could be confirmed today.

Wolves played out a 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest in the Premier League on Saturday to earn their first point of the season.

Jean-Ricner Bellegarde‘s fine strike cancelled out Chris Wood’s opener, and it was probably a fair result in the end at the City Ground.

After featuring in Wolves’ first three games, one man who was not involved yesterday against Forest was Daniel Podence, amid increasing claims he will make a move to Saudi Arabia.

The Saudi window is open until tomorrow night, and there has been an ominous update about the Wolves winger.

It has been reported by respected journalist Sacha Tavolieri that Podence is all set to complete his move to Saudi.

While their window is open until September 2, Podence’s exit from Wolves could actually be officially announced today.

He wrote on X last night just after 10pm UK time: “After finalising the sale of Mutaab Al-Harbi to Al-Nassr €23M, Daniel Podence reached an agreement with Al-Shabab.

Podence has also been strongly linked with a move to Olympiacos this summer. The Greek giants had him on loan last season, and the Wolves man really shone with his former club.

But they were unable to compete with the finances being offered by Al-Shabab, with their owner Evangelos Marinakis expressing his frustrations with Podence earlier this week, branding him ‘difficult’ with his demands.

A shame to see Podence go

It is pretty much now only a matter of time until Podence is announced as a new Al-Shabab player. His omission from yesterday’s squad at Forest was certainly telling.

For a lot of Wolves fans now, it is a slight shame to see Podence – who signed for Wolves for £17 million in January 2020 – leave the club.

Many were on board with the idea of the £60,000-a-week man playing for Wolves again this season, after returning to pre-season this summer and impressing. Podence had also shone last term, scoring 15 goals and making 13 assists in 47 appearances for Olympiacos.

Gary O’Neil was also very open to keeping the player.

But he’s ready for a new chapter after receiving an ‘excellent offer’ for him and his family, and Saudi appears to be his choice.
