Daniel Podence pens goodbye message ahead of Saudi move, but Wolves aren’t mentioned
Daniel Podence has officially completed his transfer from Wolves to Saudi Pro League club Al-Shabab.
After months of speculation, Podence’s four-year association with Wolves has come to an end.
The winger returned from a season-long loan spell at Olympiacos at the start of the summer, with his future uncertain from the moment of his arrival back at Compton.
While at one point it looked as though Podence would stay at Wolves, the Portuguese forward has now cut ties to embark on a new venture in Saudi Arabia with Al-Shabab.

Daniel Podence sends message to fans after Al-Shabab transfer
As his transfer to Al-Shabab was announced by the Saudi Pro League club, Podence took to social media to announce his departure.
In a lengthy post on Instagram, the 28-year-old said his goodbyes to fans and shared his appreciation for his former club…Olympiacos.
Podence failed to mention Wolves in his farewell, focusing instead on his return to Olympiacos for the 2023/24 campaign, thanking his supporters in Piraeus rather than Wolverhampton.
With lines that included, “Thank you to the best fans in the world!”, “I will remember forever” and “I feel that I’m letting you down,” Podence bid farewell to the Greek side, with no mention of the club that accommodated him for four years.
The winger returned to Wolves in July following the expiration of his season-long loan at Olympiacos, making for one of the most intriguing segments of his goodbye, which read:
“I was living the dream and had to wake up in July to know that football isn’t only about quality and joy.”
Considering the speculation and sense of uncertainty that came with Podence’s brief return to Wolves, it’s a relief to see the transfer saga come to a close although the 28-year-old’s farwell leaves much to be desired.
Wolves had to sanction Podence’s transfer
As Gary O’Neil sanctioned Podence’s loan move last summer, it was clear that the winger had no part to play in the manager’s system at Molineux.
Such was assumed to be the case when he returned however, the 2020 arrival was re-integrated into the squad and played a role in pre-season.

Added to that, Podence featured in the Premier League and the Carabao Cup, where he said his true goodbyes to Molineux in style, starring against Burnley in Wolves’ 2-0 win.
Sadly, fans won’t remember the 28-year-old for the highs of his form under Nuno Santo or his contribution to the goals prior to his loan exit to Olympiacos, with the player’s farewell a sign of disrespect towards those at Molineux.
