Everyone’s Saying the Same Thing About Angel Reese After Big WNBA News
While Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese sits on the sideline, awaiting her return to the WNBA after a season-ending wrist surgery, her rebounding record has been taken. In the Las Vegas Aces’ recent 85-72 victory over the Seattle Storm, MVP frontrunner A’ja Wilson secured the single-season rebounding record. Reese previously held the record at 446 rebounds during the 2024 WNBA season.
Wilson’s final stat line against the Storm clocked in at 21 points, seven rebounds, and two assists. The single-season rebounding record is now set at 451 and counting with the Aces. Shel’ll have a chance to extend that streak against the Dallas Wings on Sept.19. Following Wilson overtaking Reese for the WNBA record, fans mentioned that they felt bad for the rookie. Some argued that Reese’s relevance has fallen, while others said that she’s “kicking the air.”
“I feel bad for Reese, but A’ja’s record is far more acceptable given all the controversy behind AR’s rebounds (so many being her own even though statistically she’d still be leading). Well earned accomplishment for Wilson!!”
While it’s unfortunate news for Reese, Wilson has produced one of the best WNBA seasons in league history. The Aces center is currently averaging 26.9 points, 11.9 rebounds, and 2.6 blocks per game. She leads the WNBA in average points, leads all active players in average rebounds, and leads the league in average blocks. Wilson has also set the WNBA record for the most points in a single season with 1,021 and counting.
Reese may have been passed for the greatest accomplishment she attained in her rookie season, but it’s difficult to take away from the impact she had on the Sky. The first-year star averaged 13.6 points and 13.1 rebounds per game. While she was active, Reese led the WNBA in average rebounds and was the only rookie averaging a double-double. Reese also started in every game she played for Chicago.
