Beto medical underway at Everton as 2024 transfer fee twist emerges

Udinese striker Beto is currently undergoing a medical to join Everton, according to The Athletic.

The news outlet reported on Sunday (03:13pm, 27 August) that Beto, 25, flew into Merseyside earlier in the day and is now set to sign for the Blues in a deal worth £21.4million, plus £4.2million in add-ons.

The Athletic interestingly add that Everton will not have to make a payment for Beto until the next financial year. Everton’s latest set of accounts suggest this means a payment won’t be made until July 2024 as their last financial year ended on 30 June 2022.

Great business

If Everton have really managed to defer making a payment for Beto until next summer at the earliest, that’s a brilliant move by Kevin Thelwell and co.

Everton’s financial issues mean that they need to play it safe when it comes to signing players so maybe they’ve had to pay a bit over the odds for Beto to balance the fact Udinese won’t receive a penny for a number of months.

Sean Dyche’s men are without a goal in their first three Premier League games and with Dominic Calvert-Lewin failing to catch a break by suffering a fractured cheekbone, it makes sense to bring in a new striker.

Beto’s record isn’t bad.

Everton

Last season, the Portuguese striker scored 10 goals in 33 Serie A games for Udinese.

In the 2021/22 campaign, the Lisbon-born centre-forward scored 11 times in 28 top-flight matches in Italy.

He’s consistently finding the back of the net and that’s exactly what Everton need right now because the only consistencies in Dyche’s attack right now is Calvert-Lewin’s injury record and Neal Maupay’s failure to get on the scoresheet.
