Bournemouth player of the season: Pick your Premier League 2019/20 star | Football News | Sky Sports

AFC Bournemouth forward Dominic Solanke revealed he was itching to get back to action ahead of the start of pre-season this week.

The striker contributed 14 goals in 35 appearances last season and will be hoping to add to those totals in the upcoming campaign.

Speaking to afcb.co.uk following his return to training: “I’m very pleased to be back, obviously we all need a break, we all managed to get away, relax a bit and enjoy some time with the family.

“However, it gets to a point where you start to miss the football. Four weeks was more than enough and it’s good to be back!”

The Cherries man was in good shape as pre-season began as new head coach Andoni Iraola started to put his stamp on the team, with a number of tough sessions in his opening week.

Solanke admitted that he ensured he was continuing to work in the gym while he was away, stating: “It’s always important to look after yourself during your time away. You need to relax but you have to work as well and we’ve got a few weeks of very hard work to come.

“Pre-season is the bit that everyone likes but hates at the same time, but you’ve got to make the most of it.

“Every day in pre-season is tough, that’s what it is for and we want to ensure we’re ready for the season and the first game.”

Leicester City explore permanent transfer for £20 million-rated Manchester City starlet

Championship side Leicester City are exploring the possibility of signing Manchester City’s highly-rated central defender Callum Doyle, according to reports.

The teenager is currently weighing up his options ahead of the 2023/24 season, and after a stellar loan spell with Coventry City last campaign, the England youth international is unlikely to be short of options.

Callum Doyle is one of several Manchester City starlets to be taking their time when it comes to their next step in their respective careers, with the likes of Taylor Harwood-Bellis, Cole Palmer, and James McAtee all sitting down with the club in the coming weeks to decide the next phase.

For one Manchester City rising star in James Trafford, that next step will take him into the Premier League, with the understanding being that Burnley will complete a permanent deal for the England under-21 goalkeeper worth up to £19 million.

According to The Athletic’s Rob Tanner, former Manchester City assistant manager Enzo Maresca and Leicester City are currently ‘exploring’ a move for Callum Doyle in the ongoing summer transfer window.

It is detailed that the highly-rated 19-year-old central defender is valued at between £17 million and £20 million, with Leicester City interested in bringing him to the King Power Stadium on a permanent basis.

Callum Doyle is another of Manchester City’s more successful Academy graduates, having spent two seasons playing senior level men’s football in the EFL, and playing an integral role in a back-four for Coventry City that almost won promotion to the Premier league lest season.

In the 2021/22 campaign, Doyle and his Sunderland teammates won promotion to the EFL Championship via the League One play-offs, joining Coventry City the season after on another season-long loan and guiding the team to a Wembley play-off final, only to fall to Luton Town.

Across all competitions for the Sky Blues during the 2022/23 campaign, Callum Doyle registered a staggering 46 appearances for the club, and all before his 20th birthday.
