Player rejects ‘rich offer’ from Saudi Arabia with Aston Villa lurking – Eyed as a replacement for star
Sevilla goalkeeper Yassine Bounou could end up at Aston Villa this summer as a replacement for Emiliano Martinez.
That’s according to Tuttomercatoweb, who say the Moroccan goalkeeper has turned down a move to Saudi Arabia because he could end up in the Premier League.
They explain that Bono ‘has said no’ to a ‘rich offer’ from the Middle East in the last few hours because there could be a ‘crossover’ with another Sevilla icon, Unai Emery.
It’s said he would like to sign the goalkeeper for Aston Villa this summer as a replacement for Emiliano Martinez, who has regularly been linked with a move away after his performances for Argentina at the World Cup.
TMW offer little else more than those statements, so we’ll have to take the idea with a pinch of salt at this moment in time.
For a start, Emery has no reason to want to replace Martinez given his performances for club and country and the fact the Argentine is tied down to a contract until 2027.
Furthermore, Martinez doesn’t appear to be pushing for a move away from Villa Park after their upward progression under Emery last season.
Aston Villa, therefore, don’t need a replacement at this moment in time so a move for Bono seems unlikely.
Perhaps that will change if a big club comes on for Martinez and he pushes to leave but until that happens, this transfer seems unlikely.
