What Brighton and Inter Miami have now agreed to do with Diego Gomez

Brighton & Hove Albion and Inter Miami have reportedly agreed with what to do with Diego Gomez with the Premier League side finalizing a deal to sign the midfielder.

The Paraguay international is closing in on an exit from Florida this summer, with Brighton agreeing to sign Gomez for an Inter Miami record $18m after an incredible year in MLS with the Herons, even after missing two months of action due to injury.

With West Ham also interested in signing Gomez, Brighton have secured quite the addition in the 21-year-old midfielder, who this year has been one of the best prospects in MLS having scored four goals and assisted another four in all competitions.

And the Seagulls and Inter Miami have now agreed with what they will do with Gomez this summer.

 

Gomez to remain with Inter Miami until 2025 before joining Brighton

According to Tom Bogert, Inter Miami will retain Gomez until the end of the season, with the midfielder joining up with his new team at the start of 2025, hopefully as an MLS Cup and Supporters’ Shield champion with the Herons.

Bogert posted: “BREAKING: Brighton are finalizing a deal to sign Paraguay int’l midfielder Diego Gomez from Inter Miami, sources tell me and Ben Jacobs for GiveMeSport. Total deal around $18m. Gomez to remain with Miami until the winter. One of most expensive outbound transfers in MLS history.”

Although Gomez is currently away at the Olympics, it’s clear that Inter Miami view the former Club Libertad star as an essential part of their plans for the remainder of 2024 in winning silverware.

Indeed, Gomez started three of the last four games for the Herons before heading out to Paris for the Games, and when back in Florida, the Paraguay talent will want to ensure his time with Inter Miami ends on a high note.

Gomez needs to end Inter Miami career with a trophy

With Inter Miami up for three titles this year, it seems likely that the Herons will end 2024 with at least some form of silverware, with MLS Cup the big prize Tata Martino’s side should be targeting.

And with Gomez remaining at Chase Stadium until the end of 2024, the midfielder will want to end his career with Inter Miami with a trophy, with an MLS Cup win the perfect way for the Paraguay star to call time in the United States.

Gomez has proven to be an incredible asset for Inter Miami since joining last year, and with a new adventure in England on the horizon, the youngster will want to repay the favor with the Herons by firing them to success via MLS Cup.
